Hormonal complaints make life unnecessarily trying …

Hormonal complaints make life unnecessarily trying

One of the most common issues that adolescent girls, young women and pre or post-menopausal women may encounter is the carrying of a heavy load due to hormonal complaints. This can manifest in a multitude of ways but most commonly may be experienced as uncontrollable mood swings (sometimes extreme) at different times in the menstrual cycle (around ovulation and before menstruation), periods that are either irregular or even absent, crying, irritability, anger outbursts, inability to cope with daily life, low self-worth, depression, weight gain and bloating, fluid retention, tiredness, low libido, cravings for sweet things, constipation, headaches, and other (seemingly unrelated) symptoms that may come as a knock-on effect.

There can be a number of reasons why this happens, but the most usual triggers may be an overload/build-up of emotional issues that can create stress in the system (possibly triggering an imbalance in the glands that are responsible for the secretion of finely-tuned levels of hormones); long-term use of supplemental hormones; poor diet and/or excessive alcohol consumption on a regular basis; substance abuse; hereditary factors and other complaints and conditions in the body. All of these factors may lead to hormonal complaints.

Transdermal creams are often employed to help redress the imbalance, and they certainly do a wonderful job, particularly on the more apparent physical level. However, they need to be used continually and their effects can eventually wear off once usage is ceased.  Perhaps more importantly though, they may not address some of the possible, deeper  and underlying causes of such imbalances, some of which may exist on either a mental or emotional level.

Homoeopathic preparations can play a role in assisting with the management of some of these conditions, and can aid in the restoration of balance, harmony and happiness to a person suffering from the unpleasant effects of hormonal complaints. It is probably the most common complaint that I encounter in women, and sometimes men too. Emotional issues that build up over the course of our lives, have a habit or making themselves acutely known to us at times of hormonal fluctuation, such as puberty, ovulation, menstruation, post-natally, and at menopause and, therefore, are best not ignored or left unattended to. We do so, it would appear, to our distinct disadvantage.

It seems that life doesn’t get simpler, or easier. I think most people would concur. It behoves us to take care of ourselves on every level as we attempt to move forward with our lives in a world that moves faster and faster, and presents a seemingly unlimited avalanche of challenges. Having a physical body that is healthy and balanced is of vital importance in maintaining happiness, emotional strength and resolve. I believe these are some of the qualities that we need in order to live a life of fulfilment and purpose.

(Please discuss any homoeopathic support and management you may be considering with your doctor or medical healthcare practitioner, if you are currently under their care. Generally there are no contraindications with Homoeopathic medicines, but check with your healthcare provider.

Homoeopathy is a traditionally used medicine. It may be used in conjunction with other medicines. For any ongoing chronic condition, it is important to be assessed or examined by your healthcare professional or specialist. Always seek medical advice in emergencies.)

Please advise Carolyn if you are currently taking any prescription medication.
